FEATURES
Navigation and Information Buttons
A number of navigation buttons are used to help users chart their own
path through the material.
Most sections include at least two routes to the information. Users are
encouraged to interact with the computer either by using on-screen buttons
or by clicking on objects within graphics. Difficult words concerning the
topic are highlighted in red in the text. Clicking on these provides a
glossary definition of the word.
The Castle Data Section
As indicated above, the Castle Data section contains a further range of
resources. The photographs and drawings in the application are available in
database format, to help users find resources without having to search for
them within the other sections.
The Tool Box
This contains 'Find Text', which searches for specific words or letters, and
'Notepad' which allows users to make notes which can be saved out to disc.
The 'save' option will automatically be offered when quitting the
application.
Saving Other Objects
Users can also save out any text and picture resources from the CD ROM.
For further details consult the CD booklet.

IDEAS FOR USING THIS APPLICATION
Worksheets are provided to help you explore and understand Castles.
For example, spreadsheet activities are provided to help children
make sense of the cost of building and running a castle. Other worksheets
provide activities away from the computer including source material
exercises and a board game. The activity sheets are held in a directory
called ACTSHTS in the RESRCES directory.
Access to the Castles of the British Isles database is available in KEY PLUS
format. Running the datafile in KEY PLUS provides additional fields and
functionality. For example, students can search for different types of
castle and plot them onto the map of the British Isles provided on the CD
ROM.
KEY PLUS is not provided on this CD ROM but can be purchased separately.
Contact SCA (Anglia) at the address above.
